Meet your Therapist

Hi there, I’m Shirleen

I am passionate about guiding people toward lasting change and renewed confidence.

As a trauma-informed counsellor, strategic psychotherapist, and certified hypnotherapist, my work is grounded in compassion, clinical insight, and a deep respect for the emotional complexity of being human.

My journey began in nursing, where I spent years offering hands-on care and witnessing the profound connection between body and mind. Drawn to the deeper emotional threads that shape wellbeing, I later trained in counselling and strategic psychotherapy—seeking practical, goal-focused ways to help people shift out of stuck patterns and into meaningful change.

Today, I blend gentle hypnotherapy with evidence-based counselling approaches to support clients navigating grief, anxiety, depression, perinatal transitions, and recovery from narcissistic abuse or domestic violence. My style is collaborative, intuitive, and tailored to your unique story.

Together, we’ll explore subconscious strengths, reframe limiting beliefs, and experiment with small, sustainable shifts that spark lasting transformation. I believe healing begins with being heard—and that every person holds the power to write a new chapter.

Let me help you find your pen.

Our Approach

Find peace with New Mind Counselling

 Our Approach

At New Mind, we tailor therapy to your unique story. We blend a thoughtful mix of modalities—CBT, ACT, and hypnotherapy—plus grief-informed practices, to meet you where you are and support meaningful change.

What we do

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy): Hands-on strategies to identify and reshape unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, with practical steps you can use day to day.
  • ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy): A values-driven approach that helps you accept what’s true, commit to action      that matters, and build a richer life.
  •  Narrative Therapy: We help you re-author your story by externalizing problems, surfacing counter-narratives, and co-creating empowering new chapters.
  • Grief-informed Practice: Honoring loss as a part of your journey, while you navigate present challenges and future possibilities.
  • Somatic therapy:  Sometimes the body tells a story before the mind can find the words, and somatic therapy helps us gently listen to those signals.

Why it matters

  • Healing begins with being heard. We foster a warm, nonjudgmental space where you feel seen, understood, and respected.
  • Validation supports self-trust. When your experiences are acknowledged, you can reclaim agency and make empowered choices.
  • Gentle pathways to change. We prioritize small, sustainable steps that build confidence, resilience, and a sense of direction.

What you can expect

  • A collaborative partnership: Your goals guide the process, and your pace sets the tempo.
  • Clarity and structure: Clear aims, transparent steps, and practical tools you can use between sessions.
  • Tailored strategies: A flexible mix of evidence-based approaches chosen to fit your needs, preferences, and life context.

Who it’s for

  • Individuals facing grief, anxiety, depression, life transitions, or relationship challenges.
  • People who value a warm, collaborative approach that combines science with compassionate listening.

Getting started

  • Reach out for a brief, no-pressure, free 20 min phone consultation to meet me and get a feel for whether my approach fits your needs.
  •  If what you hear resonates, you can book a 60-minute session—face-to-face or online.

Mission Statement

My mission is to provide compassionate, trauma-informed counselling that honours the complexity of grief, emotional distress, and identity repair. I offer a safe, inclusive space for women and men to explore their experiences, reconnect with their inner strength, and move toward healing—gently, authentically, and at their own pace. I  honour grief in all its forms—loss, transition, diagnosis, identity disruption—as a natural and meaningful part of the human experience.

Through counselling, psychotherapy, and creative psychoeducation, I support clients navigating depression, anxiety, perinatal transitions, and recovery from narcissistic abuse and domestic violence. Every session is grounded in empathy, emotional safety, and a deep respect for your story.

I believe healing begins when people are met—without judgment, pressure, or agenda—and invited to reclaim agency, reconnect with purpose, and reshape meaning in their lives.

Client confidentiality is at the heart of my practice, and therefore, to protect the privacy of my clients and uphold the safety of the therapeutic space, I choose not to publish client testimonials. Trust is sacred, and I honour it by keeping all client experiences private.
